It has been abundantly clear over the past year that River Hills residents prefer whenever possible, to do business with companies owned and operated by residents of River Hills.

A year ago, Dianne & I made the decision to mover our head office from Columbus, OH to Fort Mill.  We also made the decision to purchase a home in River Hills.  We “Love” the place.

As an IICRC Certified Restoration Firm specializing in Fire, Water and Mold, we quickly realized through personal experience and doing both remediation and construction work in our community, that there is a great deal of misinformation related to the effects of unhealthy crawlspaces, mold, and indoor air quality.

Whether your HVAC system is in your crawlspace or your attic, the environment that they are located in can and will affect the indoor air quality of your living space.  If mold is present, the spores are carried through the home via the ductwork.  Rarely are these ducts sealed sufficiently and over time the insulation wrap deteriorates. 

Mold can have serious affect.  Per the Centers for Disease Control “at this point in time, there is no scientific data that supports that mold causes health issues.  However, if you have allergies, respiratory problem or are immuno-compromised, the young and the elderly, you may experience exacerbated symptoms”.  Remove the mold and return to your normal state of health.  Furthermore, per the CDC, “visible mold in your home or work environment is unacceptable and must be properly removed”.  Operative word “removed” not cleaned or bleached!

In our case a pre-purchase inspection revealed the presence of mold on the floor joist system, some structural damage due to water damage and insulation falling down that harbored “critters”.  Frankly, a black hole, that the previous owner said was regularly inspected by a pest control company.  What does mold have to do with pest control?  We purchased the home without hesitation as we know the Facts about Mold.

This was to be our example of a before and after crawlspace restoration.  The result, a conditioned healthy space, warm and bright without unwanted multi-legged guests!
